Difference between Botox and Fillers (and everything in between)!

The role of neuromodulators (Botox and Dysport) and fillers (hyaluronic acids and others) in anti-ageing is often unclear to new patients. Dr.Krasny breaks down the basics of these products and how they work to make you look your best! Here’s the lowdown:

Botox and Dysport Areas where used Duration

Reduces muscle contraction to smooth wrinkles. Ideal for Dynamic wrinkles – example “frown lines” between brows

Myth: Botox/Dysport will make my face look frozen:

Botox/Dysport will relax the muscles that cause wrinkles – only areas of concern are treated so you can retain your natural facial expressions. Only this time, you’ll frown, laugh or smirk with fewer lines.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA)  Areas where used  Duration

Restylane and Juvederm are the most well known HA fillers on the market. These are soft gels that are hypoallergenic, injected just under the Skin.  They are used to restore  volume and fullness to the skin, add definition and restore facial contours, and correct fine lines, moderate-to-severe wrinkles, and folds for a fresher, brighter look!

Interesting… Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule in our skin. Your body makes a few grams of hyaluronic acid each day.

 Sculptra  Areas where used Duration

Sculptra is a solution derived from milk sugar that boosts the skin’s own collagen production, so is longer lasting than HA (up to 2 years). Ideal Sculptra patients have more diffuse volume loss and skin laxity requiring larger volumes for global facial rejuvenation.

Why it works… Sculptra® helps stimulate your skin’s natural collagen production and works subtly, gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance.

Skin Boosters Areas where used Duration

Skin Boosters are an exciting new addition to the Restylane family of HA (Hyaluronic Acid) fillers. Microdroplets of this HA are injected superficially in the skin to plump, tone and hydrate, without volumizing. These are especially useful at treating lower cheek “accordian lines”, upper lip “barcode lines”, jawline, neck and hands but can be used pretty much Everywhere.

Fun Fact**** Skinbooster’s Chinese (and more popular) name, literally translates to “water bright injections” – a glowing and succinct description of this skin rejuvenation treatment.
